Domain Registration in Singapore: The Complete Guide

Rules and the registrar list were checked against SGNIC's own pages, and prices against each registrar's own page, on 16 October 2026.

To register a .sg domain, apply through a registrar accredited by SGNIC, the Singapore Network Information Centre [1]. Anyone can apply for .sg, while .com.sg is for businesses registered, or registering, in Singapore, or foreign companies with a local agent [2]. Within 21 calendar days, the administrative contact must verify the registrant's identity with Singpass or Corppass, or SGNIC suspends it [4].

This guide uses only SGNIC's published pages and the registrars' own pages, and it does not recommend any registrar.

Which .sg extension can you register?

SGNIC runs eight .sg extensions [2]. Your organisation type decides which ones you can use.

Extension

Who can register it (SGNIC's rules)

.sg

Anyone. A foreign applicant must appoint a local agent as its administrative contact [2].

.com.sg

Businesses registered, or in the process of registering, with ACRA, Enterprise Singapore or a professional body in Singapore. A foreign company can apply if it appoints a local agent as its administrative contact [2].

.org.sg

Organisations registered, or in the process of registering, with the Registry of Societies, plus town councils, community centres, places of worship, embassies, and other organisations not registrable under the Societies Act, Companies Act or with professional bodies [2].

.edu.sg

Educational institutions registered with MOE, the Ministry of Social and Family Development or under the Private Education Act, or otherwise authorised by law or the Government. Some training providers with government-recognised courses or government support also qualify [2].

.gov.sg

Government bodies and members of the Singapore Government [2].

.net.sg

IMDA licensees and providers of network-based hosting, such as email, DNS or web hosting [2].

.新加坡

The Chinese-language version of .sg, with the same rules [2].

.சிங்கப்பூர்

The Tamil-language version of .sg, with the same rules [2].

The old personal extension, .per.sg, is gone. SGNIC retired it on 1 April 2023 [5]. If you are torn between .sg, .com.sg and .com, our guide to choosing .com or .sg for a Singapore business covers the trade-offs.

How do you register a domain name in Singapore?

Step 1. Check the name is free

Search the name on SGNIC's WHOIS domain search. If the result says "Domain Not Found", the name is available, as long as you meet the registration criteria [3]. A name can have 1 to 63 characters before the suffix, using only letters, digits and hyphens for Latin names; Chinese and Tamil characters are also allowed [3].

Step 2. Choose an accredited registrar

You register through an accredited registrar, not through SGNIC [1], and SGNIC does not charge you directly [3]. The list below is SGNIC's own, in alphabetical order, as it stood on 16 October 2026 [1]:

  • Ascio Technologies, Inc
  • CSC Corporate Domains Inc
  • Domain Registration Pte Ltd
  • Dreamscape Networks International Pte Ltd (Represented by subsidiary Vodien Internet Solutions Pte Ltd)
  • Exabytes Network (Singapore) Pte Ltd
  • Gandi SAS
  • GoCloudEasy Pte Ltd
  • IP Twins SAS
  • Key-Systems GmbH
  • MarkMonitor Inc.
  • Nameshield SAS
  • Pacific Internet (S) Pte Ltd
  • Safenames Ltd
  • Singnet Pte Ltd
  • United Domains AG
  • Vooju Pte Ltd
  • Web Commerce Communications (S) Pte Ltd

Government ministries and agencies register through GovTech instead [1]. The list changes, so check SGNIC's list of registrars on the day you buy.

Step 3. Apply with the right ID

When you apply, you name an administrative contact. It can be an individual with a valid Singapore NRIC or FIN, or an organisation with a valid UEN [4]. If you hold a Singpass or Corppass account yourself, you can be your own administrative contact [4]. A foreign registrant that cannot find a local contact with Singpass or Corppass may, in exceptional cases, appoint an organisation with an SGNICID instead [4].

You can register a new name for 1, 2 or 3 years [3].

Step 4. Verify within 21 days

This step is easy to miss. Every new .sg domain goes through VerifiedID@SG [4]. The administrative contact logs in with Singpass or Corppass and confirms the registrant's identity and contact details on the VerifiedID@SG portal [4].

The deadline is 21 calendar days from registration. Miss it and SGNIC suspends the domain, so its website and email stop working [4]. You can extend the deadline once, by 7 days [4]. A WHOIS search shows where you stand: "VerifiedID@SG-Pending" means not yet verified, "VerifiedID@SG-OK" means done [4]. You also need to verify again when the registrant's identity or contact details change, or when you change the administrative contact. Until you do, the domain cannot be renewed [4].

Step 5. Renew before it expires

Each renewal can add 1 or 2 years, as long as the new expiry date is no more than 3 years from the day SGNIC receives the renewal [3]. So you cannot buy a .sg domain for good: you keep it by renewing.

How much does a .sg domain cost?

Prices vary by registrar [1], and SGNIC does not charge you directly [3]. At two of the three registrars we checked, the lowest headline price was a first-year offer that needs a registration of 2 years or more [6] [7]. Compare the full cost before you choose.

These are the .sg prices shown on three registrars' own pages, all on SGNIC's list, checked on 16 October 2026. Prices change often, so treat them as a guide.

What to compare

What the three pages showed

Headline price for .sg or .com.sg

S$27.99 to $42.32 (one page gives S$, the other two just $), the same for .sg and .com.sg on each page [6] [7] [8]

Minimum term for that price

Two of the three offers need a registration of 2 years or more [6] [7]; one page states no term [8]

Paid on the day

One page showed S$92.98 due for the 2 years [6]

Regular or renewal price

One page showed a regular price of $57.72 [7]; one said renewal reverts to the default price, without showing it [6]; one did not say [8]

GST

One page said its prices are subject to 9% GST [6]; the other two did not say

Before you pay, check the renewal price and whether GST is included.

How do you avoid losing a .sg domain?

Two SGNIC rules in Step 4 can take a domain offline or block its renewal: a new domain that is not verified within 21 days is suspended, and after a change of administrative contact the domain cannot be renewed until it is verified again [4]. A few habits help:

  • Choose an administrative contact who will still be there at renewal time, and update the record before they leave.
  • After any change of contact, check the domain on SGNIC's WHOIS. "VerifiedID@SG-Pending" and "Server Renew Prohibited" mean verification is still outstanding [4].
  • Renew early. Each renewal can add up to 2 years, as long as the expiry date stays within 3 years [3].

Frequently asked questions

Can I register a .sg domain myself?

Yes, through an accredited registrar [1]. If you have Singpass or Corppass, you can name yourself as the administrative contact and do the VerifiedID@SG check yourself [4].

Is domain registration in Singapore free?

No. SGNIC does not charge you directly [3], but registrars charge for registration [6] [7] [8]. The two first-year offers we found were both tied to a 2-year purchase [6] [7].

What is the cheapest way to register a .sg domain?

Compare the full cost over the years you plan to keep the name. Some low first-year prices need a 2-year registration, and the regular or renewal price is higher [6] [7].

Can I buy a domain permanently?

No. A new .sg name lasts 1 to 3 years, and each renewal adds 1 or 2 years, never beyond 3 years ahead [3].

How do I move a .sg domain to another registrar?

Ask your current registrar for the domain transfer password, then give it to the new registrar, which asks SGNIC to make the transfer [3]. If the current registrar neither approves nor rejects it, SGNIC approves the transfer after 7 days [3].
